Network Architect
Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Network Architect to join the team in Oxted, Surrey. The role is a full time, permanent position working 37 hours per week. We are offering a competitive salary of £32,623 - £37,054 per annum.
This position is based within ICT and is responsible for maintaining the councils computer networks, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs) and other data communications systems.
Your role will be to ensure the efficient and smooth running of both internal and client-facing infrastructure, establish and maintain processes for monitoring and maintaining server and network performance and establish and maintain processes for monitoring and maintaining network security.
You will also maintain server and network infrastructure including SAN arrays with all latest patches and updates as required. Maintain Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and Group Policy and be responsible for identifying ways to improve system scalability, performance and reliability as well as working with Council Staff and 3rd party vendors to identify future requirement and suggest new server technology.
Responsibilities of the Network Architect:
- To manage and implement SAN array and replication technologies across the Network boundaries.
- To troubleshoot networks, systems and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties.
- To plan and implement network security, including building firewalls, applying cryptography to network applications, managing host security, file permissions, backup and disaster recovery plans, file system integrity and adding and deleting users.
- To assist with the planning, design, research and acquisition of new or upgraded hardware and software systems; maintains current knowledge of hardware, software and network technology and recommends modifications as necessary.
- To investigate user problems, identify their source, determine possible solutions, test and implement solutions.
- To identify utilisation patterns and their effect on operation/system availability and performance expectations.
- To participate in the development of policies, procedures and resources in relation to the network.
- To maintain the councils compliance for PSN and PCI DSS certification.
- To maintain effective relationships with other authorities and external partners.
- To manage and administer the Virtual environment with a view to implementing best practise with that environment.
- To undertake the day to day operation of backup systems with regard to server and file restoration.
- To ensure timely user notification of maintenance requirements and effects on system availability.
- To document network problems and resolutions for future reference.
- To handle server shutdowns restore service according to documented procedures.
- To administer network workstations and servers utilizing standard networking protocols.
- To contribute to the proper installation, maintenance and disposal of desktop computers and printers.
- To take responsibility for meeting individual performance targets as agreed with the IT Manager.
Essential Skills & Experience required by the Network Architect:
- GCSE A-C in Maths and English or equivalent
- Proven experience of building and maintaining a network infrastructure
- Windows Server 2008, 2012
- DHCP, DNS, Active Directory and Group Policy
-Citrix Xen App & Desktop
- SAN Technologies and iSCSI
- CCNA, CCNP or equivalent industry experience
- Good knowledge of LAN and WAN Infrastructure Technologies
- Understanding and ability to work with confidential information
- Able to work regularly out of hours
Desirable Skills & Experience required by the Network Architect:
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent in Computer Science or a related subject
- Microsoft Hyper-V and Fail over clustering
- Microsoft SCVMM
- Microsoft DPM
- Experience of Firewall and security – Cisco ASA
- Microsoft Exchange 2007 – 2010
- Basic Scripting/Programming including SQL & PowerShell
- ITIL v3 Foundation
- Experience working under legislation/regulation restrictions i.e. PCI DSS & PSN
